Using Video To Develop Your Personal Brand

Video changed my life.
Video found my voice.
Video amplifies my business.
Video attracts my tribe.

When I first started doing video on a regular basis – I didn’t expect to see the impact it has on my life nor on others.

A personal brand is a journey. My personal Instagram account is a documentation of my journey from Suzanne (my birth name) to StringStory (the artist) to String (video innovator and fried chicken lover).

Everyone goes these journey of finding their voice

If you’re in the corporate game and feel this urge to leave. Your journey will be about stripping back layers of “professionalism” to reveal the real you. Some do it more publically and video is a great amplifier of it.

If you’re a creative, your journey will be about how you translate creativity into the world. Videos can show the behind the scenes, and the process of content/art/product.

And if you’re a storyteller, you’re likely going to share moments in one’s life.

Video is an amplifier, it allows us to share these moments and insights of one’s journey.

Use LinkedIn videos to develop your brand

Ever since LinkedIn has added videos during late 2017, the platform has changed. It has evolved from a drab resume platform to be a place to stand out with video.

Video has allowed people to develop their own voice. Diverse thoughts and insights have been shared on this very platform. Everyone has their own insights and each is similar, but the experience is different.

Still, people hold back from doing video.

Overcoming your fears
The idea of sharing your message in front of the world can be overwhelming.

What if they…
dislike what I had to say?
hate the sound of your voice?
judge me for how I look?
Ect.

These line of thoughts is our internal projection of their own self-doubt. My videos are appreciated because I set a standard of excellence – every time I push video, people will learn and be inspired.

Here are some video motivators:

Focus on providing value.

LinkedIn is not Instagram.

It’s about the delivery of content.

I respect anyone who does video because I know the threshold to share your voice is high. We had to overcome our own internal limit.  We have to find the courage to stand out in what we believe in.

Still, it hard. There’s always an excuse that holds us back. I had to do it alone and because I want to help the next generation of video storytellers – we set a support group in Master Your Video.

Where storytellers, gain:
🍗 confidence to start
🍗 safe space to test and experiment
🍗 real-time feedback to improve their videos

How to use video to stand out

This is the time to lift up your game to stand out. Do you have a message you want to share? Do you want to share your expertise and find clients? Do you want to practice your storytelling skills?

There’s no right or wrong answer to videos. I seeb so many styles.
If you’re starting out, focus on your personality.
Think less about production.

Start Simple
Use your phone to start.
I can make high production videos, but the rawness gets lost. Show genuine authenticity that wins the hearts of watchers.

Progress over Perfection
We have in our head that we need to be perfect.
If we follow the example of a YouTuber, their first video was terrible.

They focused on the journey and in turn, their audience was part of that journey too.

If you’re starting out, it’s about being relatable, you want people to connect with you.

They connect with you because they see you as the problem solver or motivator.
The more videos you create, the better you will become.

Use video to share your journey.
Build your voice.
